Sermon, December 4, 2011 - What the Law Does


Romans 7.7-13
Review of Romans 7.1-6

1. We are released from bondage: the law.

2. We are now joined to another: Jesus Christ.

3. We are now free and able to bear fruit for eternity.

What good is the law?

A. Some obvious observations…

1. The law is God’s moral law: the Ten Commandments
2. The law is good [12]

a. holy
b. righteous
c. good

3. The law addresses us personally

4. The law reaches inside of us

B. What the law does…

1. The law defines sin [7]
2. The law aggravates sin [8]
3. The law convicts of sin [9-11]
4. The law shows us how horrible sin really is [13]
