Sermon, July 17, 2011 - Does God Really Love Us?

Romans 5.6-8

Does God really love us?

Rom 1.1-3.20 What is wrong with all of us: Sin

Rom 3.21-31 What God provides to make things right: A Redeemer

Rom 4 How we experience redemption: Faith

Rom 5-8 The freedom we now enjoy: Life in Christ

A. OUR UNWORTHINESS

1. Helpless [6a]

For while we were still helpless…

2. Ungodly [6b]

…for the ungodly.

3. Sinners [8]

…while we were yet sinners…

4. Enemies [10]

For if while we were enemies…

a. We were opposed to God

b. God was opposed to us

B. GOD’S GIFT

1. Something unheard of: God’s own love [6-7]

For one will hardly die for a righteous man;
though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us…

2. Something wondrous: God’s best [8]

a. God’s common blessings

b. God’s message through time

c. God’s own Son

Christ died for the ungodly [6]
Christ died for us [8]
reconciled to God through the death of His Son [10]

Quotes of note...

We Christians must simplify our lives or lose untold treasures on earth and in eternity. Modern civilization is so complex as to make the devotional life all but impossible. The need for solitude and quietness was never greater than it is today.
