Sermon, April 3, 2011 - Faith

Romans 4.17 - 24

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen.

Paul tells a story that takes place 14 years prior to Gen 17
10 years after Gen 12

Faith is…

A. AN AWARENESS OF GOD

1. The God who is [17a; Heb 11.6]

2. The God of life [17b]

3. The God of creation [17c]

B. THE ASSURANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR

1. Faith believes [18]

2. Faith believes AGAINST hope [19]

3. Faith believes IN hope [20-21]

C. THE CONVICTION OF THINGS NOT SEEN

1. God’s promise [17, 18, 20, 21; Rom 10.17]

2. God’s glory [20]

3. God’s power [21]

Who gets the credit? [22] Who else? [23-25]
