Sermon, March 8, 2009, Revelation 12.13-17, The Wilderness

Revelation 12.13-17 The Wilderness

This world is not our home.
We live and journey here just as Israel did in the wilderness.
The dragon has been thrown down, but now takes out his anger on us [12].

A. FOLLOWERS OF THE LAMB ARE BEING PURSUED

We feel the dragon’s wrath in many ways:

1. From the culture in which we live

2. In the form of temptation

3. In the form of deceptions and accusations

a. The serpent [9, 10]

b. The flood [15]

4. Against the whole church and individual Christians [17]

B. FOLLOWERS OF THE LAMB ARE BEING PROTECTED

1. A safe place: the Church [6]

2. A promise: God will carry us [14]

Exo 19.4; Isa 40.31; 46.4

3. Nature itself is on our side [16]

C. FOLLOWERS OF THE LAMB ARE BEING PROVIDED FOR

1. Baptism: we are marked as belonging to God [Rev 7]

2. The Word of God: we have a map

3. The Lord’s Table: food and drink to nourish us

4. Prayer: we can ask for directions

5. The Church: brothers and sisters who travel with us

6. Public Worship: God is present where He is praised

Quotes of note...

I wish they would remember that the charge to Peter was "Feed my sheep," not "Try experiments on my rats," or even "Teach my performing dogs new tricks."
