Sermon, March 1, 2009, Revelation 12.11, The Word

Revelation 12.11 The Word

We overcome because of the blood of the Lamb AND becaue of the word of our testimony.

1. The blood speaks to us about our serious problem and God’s strong love.

2. The blood saves us by making things right between us and God.

3. The blood sets us free from the devil’s grip.

How does the word of our testimony help us to overcome the evil one?

1. Our thoughts need to be right thoughts

The spiritual battle, the loss or victory, is always in the thought world - Francis Schaeffer

2. Our faith needs to be as extensive as what God says

The Christian life involves not just believing something about Christ,
but also believing something about ourselves - Anthony Hoekema

3. Our words need to reflect what we think and believe

The whole art of Christian living is to know how to talk to yourself - Martyn Lloyd Jones

What should we be saying to ourselves?

A. I AM RIGHT WITH GOD: Justified

Rom 5.1: 8.1

B. I AM FREE FROM SIN: Sanctified

Rom 6.1-6; 12-13

C. I BELONG TO GOD: Adopted

Rom 8.14-16

D. I AM NOT ALONE: Filled with the Holy Spirit

Rom 8.23, 26-27

E. I AM VICTORIOUS: Spiritual authority

Rom 8.31-37

John Olson

Quotes of note...

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. -- Matthew 11:28
Either sin is with you, lying on your shoulders, or it is lying on Christ, the Lamb of God. Now if it is lying on your back, you are lost; but if it is resting on Christ, you are free, and you will be saved. Now choose what you want.
Martin Luther
