Sermon, August 10, 2008, Revelation 1 …let us follow Him

Revelation 1 …let us follow Him

Our Lamb has conquered, let us follow Him.

Our Lamb is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Through His death and resurrection our Lamb has conquered.
Therefore…let us follow Him.

1. Begin by falling on your face before His majesty [chapter 1]

a. John’s experience [1.17]

b. John’s previous experience [Matt 17.1-8]

2. Follow Him with faith and repentance [chapters 2-3]

a. Something to believe: Christ as revealed in Scripture

b. Something to do: Turn away from what is wrong

3. Follow Him with confidence [chapters 4-5]

a. He is the Almighty [4.8]

b. He is the Creator of all things [4.11]

c. He is the God with a sovereign plan [5.1]

d. He is the Lord of providence [5.6-7]

4. Follow Him with perseverance [chapters 6-16]

a. The call to persevere [1.9; 2.2; 3.10]

b. The need to persevere [12.10-11]

5. Follow Him in hope [chapters 17-22]

a. The destruction of every enemy

b. The victorious celebration [19.1-2, 7-9]

God’s message to us in the book of Revelation
is that in the present we are not always going to win.
That i s a lesson hard to accept—in fact, impossible—except that it is balanced
on the opposite side with this hope: eventually we will win. [Marva Dawn]

Quotes of note...

All things are God’s already; we can give him no right, by consecrating any, that he had not before, only we set it apart to his service—just as a gardener brings his master a basket of apricots, and presents them; his lord thanks him, and perhaps gives him something for his pains, and yet the apricots were as much his lord’s before as now.
