Sermon, June 1, 2008, John 1.1-18 Who is Jesus? Word of God

John 1.1-18 Who is Jesus? Word of God

John’s purpose in writing this Gospel:

These words have been written so that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;
and that believing you may have life in His name.

1. A doctrinal agenda: so that you may believe
2. A practical agenda: that you may have life

A. WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?

1. The Word [1a]

2. The Word was with God [1b]

3. The Word was God [1c]

a. The Jewish leaders: John 10.33
b. Thomas: John 20.27-28

4. The Word of Life and Light [2-5]

5. The Word became flesh [14]

B. WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS?

1. Do nothing [11]

2. Welcome Him [12-13]

a. Receive
b. Believe

C. WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL HE MAKE?

1. Life [4, 12-13]

a. John 3.16
b. John 4.14

2. Glory [14, 18]

3. Grace [14, 16]

One manifestation of the unmerited favor of God in X
is hardly gone when another one arrives.
