Sermon October 7, 2007 Trust and Obey, Genesis 17

Genesis 17 Trust and Obey

We need to understand what the Bible teaches about God’s covenant.

A. THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD’S COVENANT

Can God be trusted? [1]

B. THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD’S COVENANT

Who sets up our relationship with God? [2, 5, 6, 7, 8]

C. THE SUBSTANCE OF GOD’S COVENANT

1. Physical blessings [Ps 127]

2. Spiritual blessings [Eph 1; Rom 8]

D. THE SPIRITUAL NATURE OF GOD’S COVENANT

To those who are of the faith of Abraham [Gal 3.7, 29; Rom 4.11; 9.8]

E. THE SIGN OF GOD’S COVENANT [10]

1. We are different from the world around us

2. We are clean

3. We are loyal

F. THE STAGGERING REALITY OF GOD’S COVENANT

God promises to do the impossible for us

Therefore…trust and obey [23]

Quotes of note...

Faith is the acknowledgment of the entire absence of all goodness in us, and the recognition of the cross as the substitute for all the want on our part. The whole work is His, not ours, from first to last.
