Romans 8.13 Death and Life, part 2

We are free in Christ!
Free from the wrath of God - Romans 5
Free from sin - Romans 6
Free from the law - Romans 7
Free from death - Romans 8
We can now live free from our bad habits of sin.

INTRODUCTORY PRINCIPLES:

    1. Make sure you are a Christian

    2. Be sincere and diligent in pursuing obedience in every area of life

    3. Make sure you understand the goal of mortification

      a. sin will become weaker
      b. constant fighting against sin
      c. frequent success in saying NO to sin

SPECIFIC PRINCIPLES:

    1. Figure out if your bad habit is a serious problem

      a. Has it been a part of your life for a long time?
      b. Do you make excuses for it?
      c. Do you quickly appeal to the grace of God?

    2. Get a clear sense of the guilt, danger, and evil of your sin

    3. Load your conscience

      a. Bring the law of God into your conscience
      b. Bring the gospel into your conscience

    4. Long to be set free

    5. Consider whether your bad habit is rooted in your personality

    6. Examine yourself as to the times when you fall into sin

    7. Stop your bad habit before it gets going

    8. Practice humility at all times

    9. Don’t speak peace to yourself before God does

    10. Set faith to work on Christ for the killing of your sin
