Sermon May 27, 2007 Matthew 6.2-18 Letting Go
Matthew 6.2-18 Letting Go
- Giving…praying…fasting.
- What exactly are we supposed to be doing?
A. LET GO OF YOUR MONEY [2-4]
1. Jesus assumes that we will give
2. Jesus assures us that we will not miss out [4, 33]
3. Jesus wants us to give to the poor
- As a church, are we really giving to the poor?
Personally, are we giving to the poor?
B. LET GO OF YOUR FEARS [5-15]
1. Jesus assumes that you will pray
2. Jesus assures us that God will give what we need [8, 32]
Are we praying for God’s name to be honored here at CCP?
Are we praying for God’s will or our will to be done?
C. LET GO OF YOUR APPETITES AND ADDICTIONS [16-18]
1. Jesus assumes that we will fast
2. Jesus assures us that God will fill us [18, 31]
3. Jesus wants us to understand fasting
a. What is fasting?
…the voluntary denial of a normal function for the sake of intense spiritual activity [R. Foster]
b. Why fast? [Daniel 9]
1) To strengthen our prayers
2) To seek God’s guidance
3) To express concern for the work of God
Do we want to see God at work at CCP?
Do we want to experience God’s best for us as a church?
Don’t worry…let go of everything…give…pray…fast.
