Sermon April 8, 2007

Psalm 22.22-31 The Glory

As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

The sufferings of Christ can be seen in Psalm 22.1-21
The glories to follow are seen in Psalm 22.22-31

What Jesus wants for us in light of His glorious resurrection…

A. TO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT PRAISE AND WORSHIP

1. Praise will help us endure times of suffering [1-3]

2. Praise is our response when God does help us [22-24]

Sometimes the answer to our prayers will not be that we’re kept FROM suffering;
sometimes the answer will be that God will keep us safe IN our suffering.

B. TO LIVE A LIFE OF DEVOTED SERVICE

1. We are to fear the Lord [23, 25]

2. We are to serve the Lord [30]

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord [1 Corinthians 15.58].

C. TO SHARE OUR FAITH

1. Evangelism: tell [22; 1 Peter 3.15]

2. Missions: tell all the nations [27; Matthew 28.18-20]

D. TO BECOME STRONGER IN OUR FAITH [26, 29]

1. The strong need strength

2. The weak and faltering need strength

E. TO LIVE IN HOPE

1. Hope for the world to come: our bodily resurrection and everlasting life [29]

2. Hope for this world: our covenant children [30-31]

Quotes of note...

Jesus Christ can so interfere in a human life that it can look up and say, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits," even in the midst of sorrow or suffering.
