Hebrews 4.14-16 The Throne of Grace

What is it that you and I really need??

A. GRACE

1. What is grace?

a. God’s attitude of love and favor toward guilty, undeserving sinners [2.9]

b. God’s power that works within us [12.14-15; 13.9]

c. Both God’s attitude and power [Ephesians 2.8-10]

d. God’s energy for daily life [1 Corinthians 15.10]

e. The presence and power of the Holy Spirit

Heidelberg Catechism Q116: …God gives His grace and Holy Spirit only to those who pray…

2. Why do we need grace?

3. Why do we need grace at this particular point in the book of Hebrews? [4.14]

a. Not only to receive and rest upon Christ alone for salvation…
b. But to persevere in our faith all the way to the end of this life

John Newton: ‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.

B. THE THRONE OF GRACE

1. The THRONE of grace

b. Power

2. The throne of GRACE

a. See how far God has had to reach down to help you!
b. See how far God wants to raise you up!
c. See that you’re welcome to come just as you are!
