Hebrews 4.12 The Word Of God, Part 1

The Bible is God’s gracious provision that enables us as His people
to avoid the danger of falling away from God
and to embrace the promise of His rest: peace with God.

A. “WORD”

1. Words spoken at the right time have a power to change lives

a. We see this in history

b. We see this in the Bible

2. OUR words have a certain power

a. Destructive and discouraging words [James 3.8]

b. Helpful and creative words [Hebrews 3.12; Ephesians 4.29]

B. THE WORD “OF GOD”

1. The power of God’s Word

a. Power to create worlds [Genesis 1; Hebrews 11.3]

b. Power to create nations [Genesis 12; Exodus 3]

c. Power to create new life [John 6; James 1.18; 1 Peter
1.23-25]

2. Summary of what we believe about the Word

a. There really is a God who made us and all things

b. This God has spoken to the people He created

c. What God said and wanted preserved for us today is now
recorded in the Bible
[2 Timothy 3.16; 2 Peter 1.21]

d. The Word of God contained in the Bible is God’s instrument
for changing human lives

C. “FOR” THE WORD OF GOD

1. The Word warns us of the danger [Hebrews 2.1; 3.12]

2. The Word invites us with a promise [Hebrews 4.1, 9, 11]

3. The Word works within us enabling us to be changed people:
avoiding the danger, embracing the promise
