Sermon November 26, 2006
*Hebrews 2.1-4 The Danger of Drifting*
There’s a very real danger that we all face as Christians:
drifting away from our commitment to the Christian faith and life.
*A. WHAT HAVE WE HEARD?*
*/1. A Word about Jesus/*
*/ 2. Jesus is the Son of God/* [Heb 1]
*/ 3. Jesus is the Son of Man/* [Heb 2]
*/ 4. Jesus died for sinners and God raised Him from the dead /*
*//*
*B. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH WHAT WE’VE HEARD?*
/* 1. What does it mean to “drift?”*/
/**/
/* 2. What does this mean for the Christian life?*/
*C. WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?*
/* 1. You might drift and not come back*/ [2-3a]
/* 2. A danger that all Christians face*/ [WE]
*D. WHAT’S A CHRISTIAN TO DO?*
/* 1. Pay much closer attention*/
a. Turn your mind more attentively to the truth
b. Keep the truth before your mind
*/2. Don’t give up/* [3.6; 4.14; 10.23]
/* 3. Follow the example of others who kept their focus*/
a. Enoch [11.5-6]
b. Abraham [11.8-10]
c. Moses [11.24-27]
/*4. Keep your eyes on Jesus*/ [12.1-2]
/ Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of
witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight
that slows us down, /
/ especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. /
/ And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us.
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, /
/ on whom our faith depends from start to finish./ [NLT]
*John Olson*
In His mercy God judges us, not only by our achievements, but also by
our dreams. [ Wm Barclay ]
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they
shall be satisfied.
